The Fish and Wildlife Service Retirees Association awards small matching grants to Service Friends Organizations to support anniversary events that promote the rich heritage and missions of the Fish and Wildlife Service. Anniversaries of 50, 75, 100 and more years are especially eligible. Friends groups may apply for matching funds to support these significant anniversary events.
We have awarded grants for the following Anniversaries occurring in 2017:
CALL TO ACTION:
Any retirees living in the vicinity of refuges or hatcheries which are hosting anniversary celebrations are asked to attend if possible and offer their assistance. Please contact the station directly to offer volunteer assistance.
Anniversary events are a wonderful opportunity for collecting oral histories of Service employees. If you are willing to share your career information or know another retiree who should be on a priority list for being interviewed for an oral history, please contact email@example.com.
The celebration is being held at the Tech Center on June 10, 2017 in conjunction with the Montana Outdoor Science School’s Annual Watershed festival, which attracts over 2,000 people. Click here to see a flyer with more information.
On Saturday, June 17, 2017, the Friends of John Heinz NWR will be hosting a combined celebration for FOHR's 20th Anniversary and John Heinz at Tinicum National Wildlife Refuge's 45th Anniversary. There will be opportunities to enjoy the refuge from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, an evening visit for the first time providing hikes, dusk paddling trips and storytelling to share the sights and sounds of the refuge at a time when it is usually not open to the public. There will be music and food trucks to enjoy.
Too short of a notice to make it in June? Well there’s a “2nd chance.” A smaller event is planned for November 4, 2017. More to come on the latter event as it draws closer.
